Butfire Skatepark is different from the usual Ooty tourist attractions. You will not find flower gardens, boating or viewpoints here. Instead, you will find a large outdoor space designed entirely for skateboarding and roller sports.

The park covers around 31,000 sq ft and includes separate areas for speed practice, beginner training, transition skating and technical tricks. The 110-metre track gives athletes enough space to practise speed and endurance. The bowl, ramps, pump track and ledges make the park useful for both training and recreational skating.

Even if you do not skate, you can stop here to watch local youngsters and trained skaters using the different ramps. Children who are interested in skateboarding will especially enjoy seeing a proper skatepark for the first time.

Butfire Skatepark is around 23 to 25 km from Coonoor. The drive normally takes 55 to 75 minutes. During weekends, summer holidays and festival seasons, keep an additional 30 minutes for Ooty traffic.

🚌 How to Reach Butfire Skatepark by Government Bus

Take a regular TNSTC bus from Coonoor Bus Stand to Ooty. Buses generally travel through Wellington, Aruvankadu and Ketti before reaching Ooty Central Bus Stand.

Coonoor to Ooty buses are usually available every 15 to 20 minutes from early morning until night. The journey takes around 50 minutes when traffic is normal.

After reaching Ooty Bus Stand, ask for a local bus going towards:

🏁 Practise on the 110-Metre Skating Track

Use the 110-metre track for basic skating, controlled speed practice and endurance training. The track is 5.5 metres wide, giving skaters enough space to move comfortably.

If you are a beginner, start slowly and remain close to the edge. Do not suddenly cross in front of faster skaters.

Before starting, complete one walking round and check the surface for water, mud, leaves and loose stones.

🛹 Try the Skate Bowl

The skate bowl is one of the main attractions at Butfire Skatepark. Its curved concrete surface allows experienced skaters to build speed and move continuously without repeatedly pushing the board.

Use the bowl only after you know how to balance, turn and stop properly. Beginners can stand outside and watch how experienced skaters enter, turn and exit.

Wait until the bowl is completely empty before entering. Never walk across the bowl while someone is skating.

🚴 Enjoy the Pump Track

The pump track contains raised sections, dips and curves. Move your body up and down to build momentum instead of pushing your foot against the ground.

Skateboards and roller skates can use the track, but confirm the current park rules before bringing a BMX bicycle or stunt scooter.
